Welcome!

Welcome to the Canton of Appleholm, formerly known as Whyt Whey!  We are the Manhattan chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, an organization dedicated to exploring the Middle Ages by recreating activities and crafts of the period. There are tournaments and classes, feasts and finery (and occasional foolery), royal courts and courtly dancing. We encourage you to come and find out what interests you!

The canton’s name alludes to the “Great White Way”, a nickname for the brightly-lit portions of Broadway in midtown Manhattan.

Newcomers are always welcome. You can just show up to local meetings such as our quarterly business meetings (“Commons”), monthly arts & sciences meetings (“Evenings in the Solar”), dance practices, fighter practice, and so on, which are free of charge and happen in modern clothing. Full events require an attempt at medieval clothing, though. If you’re interested in starting off with an event, please see our Newcomers’ Page for help.
