Seeking new Exchequer for Whyt Whey

From: Abu-Darzin Ibrahim al-Rashid, Laureate, Exchequer for the Canton of Whyt Whey

Greetings, friends!

As we discussed at the Canton’s last Commons, new EK policy means that our current Exchequer am past the term limit for the office of Exchequer.  Accordingly, I will be leaving this office after filing our year-end report (31 January 2022).  So far, no one has expressed any interest in taking over the office.

Exchequer is a required office for all official SCA groups.  If we can not find anyone to take over from me, the Canton will cease to exist.  This is not an exaggeration and it is not a threat.  If you want Whyt Whey to continue (under this or any other name) someone has to take this job.

Abu-Darzin Ibrahim al-Rashid, Laureate Exchequer for the Canton of Whyt Whey in the Crown Province of Ostgardr

Welcome!

Welcome to the Canton of Appleholm — formerly known as the Canton of Whyt Whey!

We are the Manhattan chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, an organization dedicated to exploring life before 1600 by re-creating activities and crafts of the period. There are tournaments and classes, feasts and finery (and occasional foolery), royal courts and courtly dancing. We encourage you to come and find out what interests you!

Jan 2: Whyt Whey Presents the Saturday Night Solar: Shakespeare’s Advice to the Players: Authentic Renaissance Acting Technique

Please join Whyt Whey’s own Sayyida Laila al-Sanna’ al-Andalusiyya’ in bringing Shakespeare to life!

The works of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Johnson and their contemporaries are ill-suited to modern acting technique, which tends to place feeling over form. Renaissance theatre, on the other hand, demands that we obey the dictates of form first, and let that guide our feeling. Using the techniques espoused by the great Shakespearian actor and director, Peter Hall, this class will walk students through a process designed to honor the form of Renaissance theatre, in order to produce thrilling and authentic acting performances.

Dec 12: Whyt Whey Presents the Saturday Night Solar: Cameline Sauce Recipes

Please join Friderich Grimm with the Canton of Whyt Whey in the Crown Province of Østgarðr as we bring you period recipes fit for your Winter Holiday Feast!

Friderich will be teaching us about the best ways to make Cameline sauce and noting changes in the recipes over the times and cultures. Cameline sauce was a wildly popular condiment across Europe and was so common, you could buy it pre-made from vendors in the 14th C marketplace! After we learn what we are about during the preamble, we will bust out our cooking ware and make our own sauce for the practicum. This class is hands-on!

Virtual Commons and Tavern, Thursday, July 2nd

From the Seneschal of Whyt Whey:

Please join us on Thursday, July 2nd, at 7pm for a Virtual Commons and Tavern! Join online via Google Meet. You do not need to have an East Kingdom account or any other Google account to participate.

This is our usual quarterly commons and business meeting. One topic will be discussing what the reopening of Whyt Whey gatherings might look like. What are our safety requirements? What is necessary to make the populace feel safe in gathering for solars or bardic circles? If you have anything you’d like to put on the agenda, please email the Seneschal.

Following Commons, folk are invited to remain in the session for sociability, chatting, and interconnection. You are not alone!
