Berakha bat Mira v’Shlomo is stepping down as our canton’s Minister of Arts & Sciences after two years of service, and we wanted to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for all she’s done.
She took on this position several months into the Covid shutdown, and launched an ambitious program of online video classes, presentations, and roundtables that linked teachers and students from across the known world.
Her “Saturday Night Solar” series extended to include thirty sessions, providing a valuable forum for members of our community to stay connected during a long period when there were hardly any in-person events.
With her departure from our canton, and our kingdom, this long run has finally come to a close, but as she sets off on her new adventure, she takes with her our lasting appreciation.
For the extensive service of Nobilis Berakha, and for the many teachers she recruited — Vivant! Vivant! Vivant!

From: Abu-Darzin Ibrahim al-Rashid, Laureate, Exchequer for the Canton of Whyt Whey
As we discussed at the Canton’s last Commons, new EK policy means that our current Exchequer am past the term limit for the office of Exchequer. Accordingly, I will be leaving this office after filing our year-end report (31 January 2022). So far, no one has expressed any interest in taking over the office.
Exchequer is a required office for all official SCA groups. If we can not find anyone to take over from me, the Canton will cease to exist. This is not an exaggeration and it is not a threat. If you want Whyt Whey to continue (under this or any other name) someone has to take this job.

Folks — As we approach the end of the calendar year and start thinking about the year to come, I wanted to invite anyone who might be interested in getting more involved in the SCA to consider volunteering as an officer or deputy for our canton.
We currently have a full slate of the necessary officers, but I know some folks have served in the same positions for many years and might be ready for a change, and it’s always good to see some fresh talent rotating into our ranks.
One of the best ways to work your way into being a branch officer is to start by volunteering as a deputy to an existing officer, allowing you to learn the ropes and make connections with other folks in leadership roles so you can understand what’s required before committing to a longer term.
And our canton makes a great place to get started, as things are relatively quiet and peaceful in our little corner, but there’s plenty of room for growth at the local or provincial level if you decide you enjoy the role.
If you’re interested in volunteering as a deputy or serving as an officer, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org — we’d love to find a place for you on our team!
